A clear complexion begins with understanding your skin.
Each person has their own skin issue, but acne is the most common skin concern for both teenagers and adults. Acne can appear to be just a surface issue, but its development has to do with what really happens inside you and your lifestyle. I'm Dr. Disha Jaggi, a skin specialist in Lucknow, and I will help you to know the cause of acne and how you can treat it naturally, without chemicals to alter your skin or put you at risk.
🌟 What Causes Acne?
Acne happens when your skin's oil glands (sebaceous glands) are overactive and clogged with dirt and dead skin. But what starts it up?
1. Hormonal Imbalance
This occurs in puberty, menstruation, pregnancy, or PCOS..
-
Androgens are the hormones that ramp up oil output, which clogs pores.
2. Unhealthy Diet
-
Eating many high-glycemic foods (basically sugary and fried foods) causes insulin spikes that help in developing worse acne.
-
Dairy and often even processed food are known to trigger acne for many people.
3. Stress
-
Stress hormones such as cortisol can increase oil output.
-
May cause bad acne to worsen and unrecovered acne to heal more slowly!
4. Improper Skincare Routine
-
Using rough or comedogenic products (anything that clogs pores).
-
Not cleansing properly or washing your face too often.
5. Genetics
-
If your parents suffered from acne, there is a higher chance you will as well.
6. Environmental Pollution
-
Dirt, dust, and bacteria are all on your skin, which will clog pores.
🌿 How to Treat Acne Naturally – Dr. Disha’s Expert Tips
You don't always require strong medications for acne management. Here are natural and gentle remedies that I often provide to my patients:
✅ 1. Keep Your Face Clean
-
Clean your face 2x a day with a mild sulfate free cleanser.
-
Don't scrub too hard, this will only add to irritation.
✅ 2. Use Aloe Vera Gel
-
Use fresh aloe vera gel to reduce inflammation and redness.
-
It also contains antibacterial properties.
✅ 3. Apply Tea Tree Oil (with Caution)
-
Take 1 drop of tea tree oil and mix it with a carrier oil (coconut oil or jojoba).
-
Only apply to spots to reduce bacteria and swelling.
✅ 4. Eat Skin-Friendly Foods
-
Eat leafy greens, fruit with antioxidants, and foods with omega-3 ( e.g. flaxseeds, walnuts).
-
Avoid sugary foods, dairy or fried foods.
✅ 5. Stay Hydrated
-
Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day to help flush out toxins.
✅ 6. Practice Stress-Relieving Activities
-
Yoga, meditation, and deep breathing.
✅ 7. Use Clay Masks Weekly
-
Clays such as Multani mitti (Fuller’s earth) or bentonite clay help absorb excess oil and tighten your pores.
