Dark circles are the most common skin concern that I see in my clinic. Anyone can experience dark circles, including college students, parents of babies, new workers, etc, regardless of their age or gender.

The good news is, the majority of dark circles are easily treatable depending on the proper diagnosis and treatment.

In this article, we will discuss dark circles and the best treatment options to reduce dark circles.

๐Ÿง  What Are Dark Circles?

Dark circles describe the skin, which has a darker pigmentation observed under the eyes, creating a tired and/or older appearance. Dark circles can have brown, blue, or purple undertones, depending on the individual and their skin tone.

๐Ÿง What Causes Dark Circles?

✅ 1. Lack of Sleep & Fatigue

  • Poor sleep reduces blood flow and oxygen, making skin under the eyes less vascularized or duller in color, for the eyes creating the eye area darker.

✅ 2. Genetics

  • If dark circles run in your family, there is a higher chance you will have them as well, especially if you had thin skin under your eyes!

✅ 3. Allergies & Rubbing Eyes

  • Rubbing of the eyes from itching or other allergic reactions creates darker pigmentation of skin under the eyes.

✅ 4. Hyperpigmentation

  • When the skin around the eyes starts to produce additional melanin or pigment, typically, darker skin tones have this extra brown pigmentation.

✅ 5. Aging

  • As we get older, skin becomes thinner, and fat under the eyes decreases, which allows our blood vessels to be more visible.

✅ 6. Dehydration & Poor Diet

  • Inadequate hydration or vitamins (especially B12, iron, K) can also cause our under-eye shade to darken.

๐Ÿ’†‍♀️ Effective Treatments for Dark Circles

As a dermatology professional, I encourage a tailored approach depending on the reason and severity of the dark circles.

๐ŸŒฟ 1. Lifestyle Changes

  • Get 7–8 hours of sleep

  • Drink enough water

  • Eat iron-rich and vitamin-rich foods

๐ŸงŠ 2. Home Remedies (For Mild Cases)

  • - Use a cold compress to reduce swelling

  • Slice and place cucumbers or cool green tea bags over the eyes to refresh the area

  • Use almond oil or creams containing caffeine to treat the under-eye area

๐Ÿ’‰ 3. Medical Treatments (Clinic-Based)

๐Ÿ”น Topical Creams

  • Prescribed creams that contain retinol, vitamin K, kojic acid, or caffeine tend will fade pigmentation in the long term.

๐Ÿ”น Chemical Peels

  • Light peels using lactic acid or glycolic acid may help fade pigmentation around the eyes.

๐Ÿ”น Under-Eye Fillers

  • If dark circles are due to volume loss or hollowness, dermal fillers can restore a youthful, smooth look instantly.

๐Ÿ”น Laser Therapy

  • It is safe to use laser therapy under the eyes. Lasers can help with melanin build-up (pigmentation) or blood vessel build-up and improving tone and texture of skin.

๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍⚕️ Why Visit a Dermatologist?

Not all dark circles are created equal; some are due to pigmentation, some with hollowing, and some lifestyle or health issues.

In my clinic, we begin the process with an in-depth analysis to determine the cause of the dark circles prior to discussing treatment options.

Top Skin Care Tips for Humid Weather By Dr. Disha Jaggi – Skin & Hair Specialist Lucknow

Humidity can cause your skin to feel sticky, greasy and uncomfortable. Whether it is breakouts, dullness, or sweat, the key to glowy skin during hot, sticky weather is to switch up your skin care routine. As a skin expert in Lucknow, I have seen firsthand the impact that humid weather and the monsoon season can have on all skin types, but mainly on oily or combination skin.

Let's take a look at my top recommended tips to keep your skin healthy and fresh in humid weather.

๐ŸŒฌ️ 1. Cleanse Twice a Day

High levels of humidity and sweating increase the damage from dirt and oil on your face.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Use a gentle foaming facial cleanser to wash away the oil without stripping your skin of moisture.
✅ If you have acne or are prone, use a product with salicylic acid or tea tree oil.

๐Ÿ’ง 2. Keep Skin Hydrated (Yes, Even in Humidity!)

Humidity can sometimes play a trick on us into thinking our skin does not need hydration, but your skin still needs hydration in humid weather.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Use a light-weight water-based or gel-based moisturiser.
✅ Avoid heavy/thick creams as they could clog your pores.

๐ŸŒฟ 3. Use an Alcohol-Free Toner

Use toner to help control oil and tighten your pores.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Choose a toner with natural ingredients such as witch hazel, rose water, or green tea extract
✅ Toners help the skin reset after washing and help balance pH.

๐Ÿงด 4. Never Skip Sunscreen

Even when it’s cloudy or rainy outside, UV rays can damage your skin.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Use a broad-spectrum SPF of 30 or higher, ideally a matte, non-comedogenic formula.
✅ Reapply every 3–4 hours if you’re outside.

๐Ÿงผ 5. Exfoliate Gently, But Not Daily

During humid months, dead skin cells and sweat can clog your pores.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Exfoliate 2 times/week with a gentle scrub or an enzyme-based exfoliant.
✅ Be careful not to over-exfoliate, which can also lead to irritation.

๐Ÿ’† 6. Don’t Touch Your Face Frequently

Your hands carry bacteria. Touching your face in humid weather can cause you to break out or get a skin infection.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Bring tissues or oil blotting papers to pat or blot away sweat or oil.

๐Ÿงฝ 7. Use Minimal Makeup

Heavy makeup + sweat = clogged pores.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Use non-comedogenic or mineral-based make-up products.
✅ Tinted moisturizers or BB creams are better than full coverage foundations in humid weather.

๐ŸงŠ 8. Cool Down With Ice Cubes or Face Mists

I recommend rubbing an ice cube (in a cloth) or spritzing with a cooling facial mist to cool the skin or reduce puffiness.

๐Ÿ“‹ Bonus Tips From Dr. Disha Jaggi

  • Change your pillow cases and face towels often

  • Stay hydrated and eat fruits with high water content (like watermelon, cucumber)

  • Don’t ignore signs like: itchiness, heat rash, or fungal infection, these are common in humid weather

  • Consult a dermatologist if breakouts or rashes persist

What Causes Acne and How to Treat It Naturally – By Dr. Disha Jaggi- Skin Specialist in Lucknow

A clear complexion begins with understanding your skin.

Each person has their own skin issue, but acne is the most common skin concern for both teenagers and adults. Acne can appear to be just a surface issue, but its development has to do with what really happens inside you and your lifestyle.  I'm Dr. Disha Jaggi, a skin specialist in Lucknow, and I will help you to know the cause of acne and how you can treat it naturally, without chemicals to alter your skin or put you at risk.

๐ŸŒŸ What Causes Acne?

Acne happens when your skin's oil glands (sebaceous glands) are overactive and clogged with dirt and dead skin. But what starts it up?

1. Hormonal Imbalance

  • This occurs in puberty, menstruation, pregnancy, or PCOS..

  • Androgens are the hormones that ramp up oil output, which clogs pores.

2. Unhealthy Diet

  • Eating many high-glycemic foods (basically sugary and fried foods) causes insulin spikes that help in developing worse acne.

  • Dairy and often even processed food are known to trigger acne for many people.

3. Stress

  • Stress hormones such as cortisol can increase oil output.

  • May cause bad acne to worsen and unrecovered acne to heal more slowly!

4. Improper Skincare Routine

  • Using rough or comedogenic products (anything that clogs pores).

  • Not cleansing properly or washing your face too often.

5. Genetics

  • If your parents suffered from acne, there is a higher chance you will as well.

6. Environmental Pollution

  • Dirt, dust, and bacteria are all on your skin, which will clog pores.

๐ŸŒฟ How to Treat Acne Naturally – Dr. Disha’s Expert Tips

You don't always require strong medications for acne management. Here are natural and gentle remedies that I often provide to my patients:

✅ 1. Keep Your Face Clean

  • Clean your face 2x a day with a mild sulfate free cleanser.

  • Don't scrub too hard, this will only add to irritation.

✅ 2. Use Aloe Vera Gel

  • Use fresh aloe vera gel to reduce inflammation and redness.

  • It also contains antibacterial properties.

✅ 3. Apply Tea Tree Oil (with Caution)

  • Take 1 drop of tea tree oil and mix it with a carrier oil (coconut oil or jojoba).

  • Only apply to spots to reduce bacteria and swelling.

✅ 4. Eat Skin-Friendly Foods

  • Eat leafy greens, fruit with antioxidants, and foods with omega-3 ( e.g. flaxseeds, walnuts).

  • Avoid sugary foods, dairy or fried foods.

✅ 5. Stay Hydrated

  • Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day to help flush out toxins.

✅ 6. Practice Stress-Relieving Activities

  • Yoga, meditation, and deep breathing.

✅ 7. Use Clay Masks Weekly

  • Clays such as Multani mitti (Fuller’s earth) or bentonite clay help absorb excess oil and tighten your pores.

⚠️ When to See a Skin Specialist

Natural remedies will work for mild and moderate acne. If you are experiencing any of the following issues, then it is a good idea to consult your physician.

  • Persistent cystic acne

  • Painful nodules

  • Scarring

  • Sudden acne after a long, clear phase

It’s important to consult a dermatologist.
