What Is the Difference Between a MediFacial and a Regular Facial? By Dr. Disha Jaggi – Skin & Aesthetic Expert

In the world of skincare, facials are a go-to solution for refreshing and rejuvenating the skin. But with the advancement of technology and skin science, new techniques have been developed to treat the skin, one of which is the MediFacial. A facial provides you with the relaxing rejuvenation when you want to address the surface of your skin; however, a MediFacial goes deeper and focuses specifically on your skin's needs.

Let's break down the difference between a regular facial and a MediFacial:

🌿 What is a Regular Facial?

A regular facial can be received at either a salon or spa, which will typically include:

  • Cleansing
  • Exfoliation
  • Steaming
  • Extraction
  • Massage
  • A simple face pack

Purpose: Primarily relaxation and some standard skin revitalisation.

Best For: Rarely pampering, minimal dullness, and 'normal' skin types.

Limitations:

  • Simply short-term benefits

  • Doesn't address deep skin issues like pigmentation, acne scarring, and age markers

  • Often involves generic products that may not be right for all skin types

🧬 What is a MediFacial?

A MediFacial (Medical Facial) is a tailored treatment that is supervised by a doctor or licensed doctor, using higher-grade, clinically tested ingredients, and advanced technology (i.e.:

  • Chemical peels

  • Hydrafacial

  • Microdermabrasion

  • LED treatment

  • Oxygen infusion

MediFacial Intended Purpose: To target specific skin concerns, such as:

  • Acne with and without scarring

  • Hyperpigmentation

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Dehydration or dullness

  • Uneven pigment and texture

MediFacial Indications (Who should/shouldn't get it):

Appropriate for all skin types, but particularly for someone with active skin conditions or specific skin concerns.

MediFacial Benefits:

  • Safe, even with sensitive skin

  • Long-lasting results

  • Low to no harsh chemicals

  • In the hands of trained dermatologists or licensed skin care professionals.

Dry Hair Treatment in Summer with Dr. Disha Skin and Hair Clinic

Introduction

Summer can be a nightmare for your hair! The scorching heat, humidity, and excessive sweating strip away natural oils, making your hair dry, frizzy, and lifeless. If you struggle with dry hair during the summer, Dr. Disha Skin and Hair Clinic has expert-backed solutions to bring back hydration and shine. This guide will walk you through effective dry hair treatments, professional advice, and home remedies to keep your locks healthy.

Why Does Hair Become Dry in Summer?

Before we jump into treatments, it is important to understand what causes dry hair in the summer:

  • Sun Exposure: UV rays damage the hair cuticle, leading to moisture loss.

  • Swimming Pools & Saltwater: Chlorine and salt strip away natural oils, leaving hair dry.

  • Frequent Washing: Over-washing removes essential oils, making hair brittle.

  • Hot Styling Tools: Excessive use of curling irons, straighteners, and blow dryers worsens dryness.

  • Lack of Hydration: Not drinking enough water affects hair health, making it look dull.

Professional Treatments for Dry Hair at Dr Disha's Hair & Skin Clinic

1. Hydrating Hair Masks

Dr Disha's Hair & Skin Clinic offers deep-conditioning treatments infused with argan oil, keratin, and hyaluronic acid. These masks provide intense hydration, restoring moisture balance.

2. Keratin Treatment

A keratin treatment repairs damaged hair by smoothing the cuticle, reducing frizz, and improving shine. This is a great solution for those suffering from severe hair dryness.

3. Scalp Therapy

A dry scalp often leads to dry hair. The clinic provides personalized scalp treatments with essential oils and serums to nourish the roots and promote hair growth.

4. PRP Therapy for Hair

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is an advanced treatment that stimulates hair follicles, improves texture, and enhances hydration levels.

5. Hair Botox Treatment

This is a deep-conditioning treatment that replenishes lost nutrients, restores elasticity, and strengthens hair from within.

Best Home Remedies for Dry Hair

1. Coconut Oil Treatment

  • Warm coconut oil and massage it into your scalp.

  • Leave it overnight, and wash it off the next morning.

  • Coconut oil penetrates deep into hair strands, preventing moisture loss.

2. Aloe Vera Hair Mask

  • Mix fresh aloe vera gel with honey and apply it to your hair.

  • Leave it on for 30 minutes before rinsing.

  • Aloe vera soothes and hydrates the scalp, while honey locks in moisture.

3. Avocado and Banana Hair Mask

  • Blend one ripe avocado and a banana.

  • Apply this creamy mixture to your hair and leave it for 40 minutes.

  • These ingredients are rich in vitamins and natural oils that restore shine and softness.

4. Egg Yolk and Olive Oil Mask

  • Mix two egg yolks with two tablespoons of olive oil.

  • Apply this mixture to your scalp and hair.

  • Egg yolk nourishes the hair, and olive oil deeply conditions it.

Daily Hair Care Tips to Prevent Dryness

  • Use a Mild, Sulfate-Free Shampoo – Harsh shampoos strip natural oils.

  • Condition Regularly – Always follow up with a conditioner to lock in moisture.

  • Protect Hair from Sun – Wear a hat or use UV-protection sprays.

  • Reduce Heat Styling – Let your hair air-dry whenever possible.

  • Drink Plenty of Water – Hydrated body means hydrated hair!

FAQs

1. How often should I wash my hair in the summer?

Washing hair 2-3 times a week with a gentle shampoo helps retain natural oils.

2. What foods help improve dry hair?

3. Can I use coconut oil daily?

Using coconut oil 2-3 times a week is enough to hydrate dry hair without making it greasy.

4. How can I protect my hair while swimming?

Apply coconut oil or a leave-in conditioner before swimming to create a protective barrier.

5. Which hair mask is best for dry hair?

Aloe vera and honey hair masks work wonders for dry and frizzy hair.

Winter Dandruff and Seborrheic Dermatitis: Causes, Symptoms, and Effective Treatments

As the cold winter months approach, many people notice an uptick in scalp issues, particularly dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. These conditions can cause itching, flaking, and discomfort, which are exacerbated by the dry, cold air and heated indoor environments. Understanding the underlying causes and the available treatments can help you manage these conditions effectively.

What is Winter Dandruff?

Winter dandruff is often triggered by the dry and cold conditions during the winter months. The lack of humidity in the air can dry out the scalp, leading to the overproduction of skin cells and subsequent flaking.

Symptoms

- White or yellow flakes on the scalp and hair.

- Itchy or irritated scalp.

- Increased dryness or sensitivity.

What is Seborrheic Dermatitis?

Seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic skin condition that affects areas rich in sebaceous glands, such as the scalp, face, and upper chest. Unlike regular dandruff, it involves redness and inflammation in addition to flaking.

Symptoms:

- Red, inflamed skin patches.

- Greasy or yellowish flakes.

- Itchy and irritated scalp.

- Worsening symptoms during colder months.

Causes:

- Overgrowth of yeast (Malassezia) on the scalp.

- Genetic predisposition.

- Cold, dry weather exacerbating the condition.

- Stress, hormonal changes, or weakened immunity.

How to Treat Winter Dandruff and Seborrheic Dermatitis

1. Use a Medicated Shampoo

- Anti-dandruff shampoos: Look for ingredients like ketoconazole, zinc pyrithione, salicylic acid, selenium sulfide, or coal tar.

- Frequency: Use 2-3 times a week until symptoms improve, then reduce to once a week for maintenance.

2. Moisturize Your Scalp

- Apply lightweight, non-comedogenic oils like argan or jojoba oil to the scalp to combat dryness.

- Avoid heavy oils, which can worsen seborrheic dermatitis by feeding the yeast.

3. Maintain Scalp Hygiene

- Wash your hair regularly to remove excess oil and flakes.

- Avoid over-washing, as it can strip natural oils and irritate the scalp.

4. Avoid Triggers

- Limit the use of heat styling tools and harsh hair products.

- Manage stress through activities like yoga, meditation, or regular exercise.

5. Adjust Your Diet

- Incorporate foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, and biotin to support scalp health.

- Stay hydrated to prevent dryness.

6. Use Topical Treatments

- Corticosteroid creams: For severe seborrheic dermatitis, a doctor may prescribe mild steroid creams to reduce inflammation.

- Antifungal creams: Effective for controlling yeast overgrowth.

7. Stay Hydrated Indoors

- Use a humidifier to add moisture to indoor air and prevent your scalp from drying out.

When to See a Doctor?

If dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis persists despite at-home treatments, consult a dermatologist. Persistent symptoms might require prescription-strength medications or specialized care.

Prevention Tips

- Wash hair with lukewarm water instead of hot water.

- Protect your scalp with a hat or scarf in cold weather.

- Use a mild shampoo even during symptom-free periods to maintain scalp health.

By understanding the differences between winter dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis and following the above treatments, you can enjoy a healthy scalp all winter long. Take the necessary steps now to keep flakes at bay and soothe your skin for the season ahead.

Know 7 Mistakes That Can Damage Your Hair With Dr. Disha Hair Specialist Lucknow

There are 7 mistakes that can damage your hair which is given below:

1. Over Washing:

Washing your hair too frequently can strip it of its natural oils, which can cause dryness, breakage, and split ends. It's important to find a balance between keeping your hair clean and not washing it too often. For most people, washing their hair every 2-3 days is sufficient.

2. Using Hot Tools:

Using hot tools like curling irons, flat irons, and blow dryers can cause damage to the hair shaft, leading to breakage and split ends. If you must use hot tools, make sure to use a heat protectant spray and avoid using them on wet hair.

3. Tight Hairstyles:

Wearing tight hairstyles like braids, ponytails, and buns can cause tension in the hair follicles, leading to hair loss and damage. It's important to give your hair a break from these hairstyles and to avoid pulling your hair too tightly.

4. Chemical Treatments:

Chemical treatments like hair dye, perms, and relaxers can weaken the hair shaft, leading to breakage and split ends. It's important to use these treatments sparingly and to follow the instructions carefully.

5. Using The Wrong Products:

Using hair care products that are not suited to your hair type can cause damage and dryness. It's important to choose products that are specifically designed for your hair type and to avoid using too many products at once.

6. Skipping Regular Trims:

Skipping regular trims can lead to split ends and breakage, making it harder to grow long, healthy hair. It's important to get regular trims every 6-8 weeks to keep your hair healthy and prevent split ends.

7. Not Protecting Your Hair From The Sun:

Exposure to the sun's UV rays can cause damage to the hair, leading to dryness, breakage, and split ends. It's important to protect your hair from the sun by wearing a hat or using a hair care product with SPF.

Are You Tired of Waking up Everyday to Find Yourself With Dark Circles? Dr Disha Jaggi Cairae

Dark circles under the lower eyelids are common. Often accompanied by bags, having dark circles under your eyes may invite unwanted comments about how tired you look. In fact, there are many reasons for dark circles. It’s not always from a lack of sleep.

There are a number of possible reasons for dark circles under your eyes. Some common causes include:

Fatigue

Oversleeping, extreme fatigue, or just staying up a few hours past your typical bedtime can cause dark circles to form under your eyes. Sleep deprivation can cause your skin to become dull and paler.

Age

Natural aging is another common reason for dark circles beneath your eyes.

Eyestrain

Staring at your television or computer screen may cause strain on your eyes. This strain can enlarge the blood vessels around your eyes. As a result, the skin surrounding your eyes can darken.

Dehydration

Dehydration is a common cause of dark circles under your eyes.

Sun overexposure

Sun exposure can cause your body to produce an excess of melanin, the pigment that gives your skin color. Too much sun — particularly for your eyes — can cause pigmentation in the surrounding skin to darken.

Genetics

Family history also plays a part in developing dark circles under your eyes.

Anemia

Anemia is when your levels of red blood cells are lower than normal. If you have anemia, you may also notice that your skin is paler than usual, and you may have dark circles under your eyes.

There are various treatment options for dark circles:

Skin-lightening cream

To lighten under-eye hyperpigmentation, a dermatologist might prescribe a skin-lightening cream with azelaic acid, kojic acid, glycolic acid, or hydroquinone.

Laser therapy

Laser treatments use heat energy to vaporize damaged cells. The darker pigment under the eyes can be targeted.

Chemical peels

A light chemical peel to lighten dark pigmentation under the eyes. Commonly these will include glycolic acid, retinoic acid, or hydroquinone.

Fillers

A hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler such as Restylane or Juvederm can be injected into the tissue under the eye. Fillers help with volume loss under the eye, which can cause dark circles.

Hair Fall Treatment with Platelet-Rich-Fibrin (PRF)- Dr Disha's Hair & Skin Aesthetic Clinic

Hair loss affects both men and women and is completely normal and part of the aging process. Some other factors can influence the rate that hair loss occurs, such as genetic predispositions of the person, alopecia areata, and even severe stress. Hair restoration with platelet-rich fibrin PRF is a virtually painless, cutting-edge procedure that is used for patients who do not want surgery.

Platelet-Rich-Fibrin (PRF) hair restoration is a new, non-surgical treatment that uses cell growth factors to regenerate and restore the inactive hair follicle through wound-healing technology. These specific growth factors are essential in tissue regeneration and healing.

PRF is obtained by drawing the patient’s own blood, just like it is done during a routine blood test. It is then separated using a centrifuge. While the blood is being prepared, the patient’s scalp will be numbed with a topical anesthetic cream to make the treatment virtually painless. Once the serum is isolated, it will be strategically injected into the scalp where hair loss or hair thinning has occurred. It may also be combined with micro-needling therapy. When the procedure is over, the patient can leave and immediately go back to their normal daily activities.

The hair follicles treated with PRF will immediately be reinvigorated and begin to grow new hair. The hair will strengthen and become thicker. Hair growth is a slower process, and results can be seen within three to six months.

What Hair Transplant Technique is Right for You?

What Hair Transplant Technique is Right for You?

Types of hair transplant

FUT vs FUE Hair Restoration

There are two types of hair transplant methods: FUT (Follicular Unit Transplant) and FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction). The best option for you will depend on your individual needs and the recommendations of your physician.

FUT Method

The FUT method of hair transplantation involves taking a strip of skin with hair follicles from the donor site, typically the back of your head where hair is naturally fuller and less prone to balding. From this skin, small groups of tissue containing hair follicles are separated and prepared for transplantation. While this happens, tiny, individual holes are made in the recipient site where you are experiencing thinning or balding. The prepared grafts are then individually placed into the recipient site.

This technique gives a horizontal scar and While healing, this incision will be prominent, and patients will need to take care of both the linear incision on the back of the head and the recipient sites during recovery.

FUE technique

The FUE technique of hair transplantation was developed to achieve the same results as FUT while addressing the disadvantages. Like FUT, FUE involves harvesting hair follicles from a donor site at the back of the head and moving them to create a fuller, natural-looking hairline.

Unlike FUT, this method doesn’t involve removing a strip of tissue from the back of the head but rather collecting individual hair follicles directly from the scalp and inserting them into tiny incisions made in the recipient site.

The FUE method also lessens downtime and lowers levels of post-procedure discomfort.

If you have concerns about hair loss, Dr. Disha Jaggi encourages you to speak with your doctor before the condition worsens—or before purchasing any OTC products. There are two main reasons it’s important to talk to a doctor. First, waiting too long may mean you won’t be able to benefit from preventative options while they are still viable. Secondly, using questionable products is likely to waste money that could have instead purchased a medically proven option.

Ultimately, your health, comfort, and hairline depend on you working with a surgeon who understands how to restore a fuller head of hair that looks natural.
